Gwent League - Race 3

This was the 3rd race in the Gwent League X-country Season 2009/10.  Seems strange that this year 3 of the 5 races in the southern county of Wales league are in England, Somerset (Taunton), Wiltshire (Bath University) and Avon (Blaise Castle, Bristol), but a chance to run at a great venue closer to home than some of the South Wales League, was certainly worth it.

The 3rd Gwent league race was at the famous Hestercombe Gardens in Taunton.  With days of rain preceding the race, it was a very pleasant surprise to see the sun shining.

However, this was the only welcoming feature of the event, with strong winds and an extremely muddy course, meant a very tough challenge ahead indeed.  So with the senior ladies race being the first of the day, it was interesting for all to follow as this was also the Avon & Somerset Combined X-Country Championship.

Our only participant of the day in the senior ladies race Kate McEvoy, was ready to prove that she really enjoys the mud, hills and competition of X-country racing.  She finished in a very respectful 87th position.  Full results to follow shortly.
