Rudolphs Rampage

The Rudolphs Rampage, a fun Christmas race, is the Cotswold Allrunners multi-terrain race held in late December.  This is an approx. 4 mile undulating/hilly multi-terrain race in and around Painswick, Gloucestershire.

The Course

The race starts just opposite the Painswick Rugby Club on the A46. The route then drops via a private road into the Valley, and follows the brook for about 1/2 mile. Then crossing over the weir, the course begins to ascend on a private track. After about 400m, crossing of a narrow lane, the ascent intensity starts to increase on a newly laid footpath (pictured in panoramic above). Once another 1/2mile has been, a short stint on Wick Street leads into the rocky track onto Juniper Hill, one of the 2 major climbs in this event. Now on top of the hill breathtaking, so to speak, views of Painswick and surrounding valleys can be enjoyed.

For the next 1 & 1/4 miles the flat, soft, muddy terrain of local Woodland is completed, before a long descent into the Painswick Valley is commenced. Once reached a short but challenging road climb is ahead, in order to reach the famous Painswick Church with 99 Yew trees.  Finally, a short descent back towards the Rugby Club and the finishing line beckons.

Painswick Rugby Club is situated 3 miles north of Stroud on the A46

From Stroud: After 2 miles follow the signs to Painswick and Cheltenham. After a
further mile you reach the town of Painswick and as you see the 30 mph sign, you
should turn left into the Club Car Park and follow marshals instructions

From M5 north J11a/Gloucester and Cheltenham: Follow signs for Painswick, A46 and Stroud.  Once on the A46 from Brockworth, travel for about 5 miles into and through the village of Painswick.  Once the road starts to to descend sharply and before the 50mph sign, the Rugby Club is on your right.
