Tough Ten – 14th Feb 2010

Gerard Newman was Cotswold Allrunners only participant, who completed the course in under one and half hours and made the comment, ” Am I chuffed!”.  This means he is pleased with his performance and is still improving week on week.

The 10 mile course uses sections of (closed) tarmac road along the seafront and coast, a section of the Promenade, woodland paths and trails within Worlebury Woods, and a little of the beach. In parts is it flat and fast; in others there are short climbs and long down hill sections

Longleat 10K – 7th February 2010

February 7th seemed a perfect morning to be chased by Lions around the Longleat Estate. The six annual running of this event saw just over 800 compete, which included 8 Cotswold Allrunners travel to Longleat Safari Park, NR Warminster in Wiltshire. This annual event is organised by 209 Events in the private estate of Longleat. A notable performance was came from Briony who had awful toothache and due to painkiller felt very ill on the journey to her first ever race. Luckily amateur athletes are tested for high level of ibuprofen and antibiotics.

Rudolphs Rampage 2009

The Rudolph Rampage took place in the beautiful Cotswold village of Painswick last Sunday the 20th December.  Obviously the lure of mulled wine and mince pies got all participants to the start line, wearing suitable festive items ready to take on the four and half mile multi-terrain race in cold and snowy conditions.

These picturesque conditions actually made the field smaller than expected as driving conditions meant many couldn’t make it to the event.

The winner John O’Connor

Halfway House Run

Halfway House Run

The Cotswold Allrunners inaugural race took place on Thursday the 23rd July 2009.  The Halfway House Sizzling Six was a 6k multi-terrain run, across the common, through the village of Minchinhampton and down into the valley of devils elbow and returning back to Box.  The race was challenging and the weather was kind, with sun and a light breeze, but the lure of a medal and a free gourmet BBQ courtesy of Niall, the landlord at the Halfway House meant we had nearly 60 Cotswold Allrunners taking on the challenge.

The overall honours of the day go to Mal Walker, who at the age of 68 won the Cotswold Allrunners members’ award based on his performance.  The John Pope Cup, in memory of John who died earlier this year, who was a great youth athlete in Gloucestershire, was presented to Mal by Richard, Dinah and Cheryl, his surviving siblings.

In 1st place was Alex Hughes in a time of 26:50min with a great race performance on the day, consider his pre-race doubts.  Then in 2nd place was Minchinhampton Rugby Captain Peter Varley in 29:10min and 3rd Simon Callandine in 29:47min (MV40).  The ladies race was somewhat closer to call, but an energised Kate McEvoy tackled the last hill with great determination to cross the finish line as first lady in a time of 31:02min & 5th overall, followed by 2nd lady Rose Niland in 32:57min (LV45) and 3rd lady Liz Workman in 33:48min.

Special thanks to: all marshals, the Halfway House and Staff, Shiny Goodness and in particular Dave Smith and Kate McEvoy for their help.
