X-Country debut run at Bath University

The ladies teamSunday the 8th November 2009 saw a small team of Cotswold Allrunners make the clubs debut in the X-country running arena at Bath University.  5 runners entered the 2nd race of the Gwent League season at Bath on a very wet and cold afternoon.

In the ladies race Kate McEvoy was making her debut in X-country running, having never been forced at school like most of us and never having worn a pair of spikes either, excelled in the 3 lap race over mostly grass, but with virtually no flat, to finish 112th in a field of nearly 200.

Next was Natasha Marshall making a comeback to off-road running since winning her last 2 races over 20 years ago.  After an issue with a sock which meant a brief halt, she got on and ran a very determined race to finish 147th.  She will be off to Gloucester Sports this week to get the right socks (hopefully)

Mal WalkerFinally, Mal Walker who at the tender age of 68 made his debut into the X-country competition, who at the start said he didn’t want to be last, not only fulfilled this, but almost set a PB for 10K, previously on the road.

Sadly Sarrah Mason aired on the side of caution due to a tight hamstring and exited the race on the first lap, but she has plans to make a return in Blackbridge race, Gloucester in a fortnight.

Congratulation to all competitors and if you would like to take part please contact Simon Barnes through the contact form.
