Llanelli Half Marathon 2009

The 2009 Llanelli Half Marathon took place on the 8th March. The event is fully supported by Carmarthenshire County Council or www.sirgaerfyrddin.gov.uk and the official charity of 2009, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Due to the time of the year and the fact that the run is along an exposed coastline, it is always possible to have to battle the weather whilst also taking on the task of completing the half marathon distance and on this occasion the Welsh climate did not dissappoint.

So a visit to Wales for some or in this case an opportunity to catch up with family, led Sarrah Mason to the start line of the Llanelli 2009 Half Marathon. She had trained very hard for her second Half Marathon in her short time as a runner and this was to be evident in her pursuit of an even quicker time than her first half marathon, the Stroud Half Marathon in the autumn of 2008.

She set off sensibly as any runner needs to do in any endurance event and continued running strong throughout the 13.1 miles battling the winds lashing the coast near Swansea to finish in 426th place in an astonishing personal best of 1hr47min.

This proves that regular structured training combined with the mental strength Sarrah has are the key components to half marathon success.
