Bath Half Marathon 2009

Bath City in the north of Wiltshire is a beautiful place to visit in early March where spring has not quite begun, but instead over 10000 runners embark on a 13.1 mile journey around the City and it’s surroundings.

This year saw the Bath Half Marathon organised by Running High and supported by Sweatshop. The conditions were good with little wind and clear skies.

Kate McEvoy was first Cotswold Allrunner over the line in a new personal best of 2hrs1min. She was followed closely by Liz who tried to stay with her but still managed a quicker time than last years Stroud half marathon to finish in 2hrs3mins. Next was Dinah, who slipped on a drinks bottle at about 8 miles and had to spend several minutes composing herself and nursing an injured knee, but with her level of determination, we all knew she was still going to cover every inch of the 13.1mile course.

For Laura and Vicky this was there first half marathon and in fact they had only been training for about 9 weeks prior to standing on the start line. They both ran exceptionnally well and although old injuries plaqued Vicky at about halfway, they both kept on at a steady pace, overtaking many runners who had set off too quick. With continued determination and constant topping up with energy from drinks stations, the finishing line was getting ever closer.

At eleven miles Laura’s foot started to hurt, but with intervals of running and walking she kept on going. Then 2hrs31minutes later 2 very mentally strong Cotswold Allrunners crossed the finish and received there well deserved medals.

Laura has raised more than £700 for Callum Kaye a young boy suffering with a brain tumour and the MS Therapy Centre in Swindon which he attends for his oxygen therapy treatment. She also has a just giving account if anybody wishes to donate to this very good cause.
